Uber has introduced a new feature allowing drivers in India to instantly cash out their earnings up to four times a day, as per NDTV Profit.

This move aims to tackle the common issue of drivers requesting cash payments instead of using cards or other online methods.

Prabhjeet Singh, Uber’s President for India and South Asia, shared at an event in New Delhi that drivers can access their earnings within just five seconds, a significant improvement over the usual option of cashing out only up to three times a week.

India now boasts over 1 million Uber drivers, making it the company’s second-largest driver base globally. Uber has also introduced other driver-focused features, including audio recordings for drivers who feel unsafe during trips, helmet selfies, and a new option for female drivers to only accept female riders.

Additionally, Uber has revamped its earnings page, giving drivers a clearer and more personalised breakdown of their earnings, including a transparent view of what portion goes to Uber. Drivers can also now appeal deactivations with supporting evidence.

In another move, Uber is offering cash incentives to the first 10,000 drivers who register on the e-Shram portal, the government’s data logbook for gig workers.

This initiative supports the government’s new Code on Social Security, which aims to establish a security fund for gig workers, to which platforms like Uber must contribute.
