This weekend, the train services will be halted between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Byculla, and also between CSMT and Wadala on Friday and Saturday nights.
This disruption is due to platform extension work at CSMT to accommodate 24-coach express trains. From 11:30 pm on Friday, services will be suspended between CSMT and Byculla for five hours, until 4:30 am.
The following night, from 11:15 pm on Saturday, trains will be halted on both the main and harbour lines between CSMT and Byculla, as well as between CSMT and Wadala, until 9:15 am on Sunday.
According to Hindustan Times, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, Swapnil Nila, confirmed that several outstation trains would be short-originated or short-terminated. Three express trains—the Deccan Express, Intercity Express, and Tapovan Express—will be cancelled. Passengers are advised to adjust their plans accordingly.
Over 45 outstation trains will be impacted, with short-origin stations at Dadar, Panvel, and Pune. Additionally, more than 60 suburban locals will either be cancelled or rerouted at Byculla, Parel, Dadar, and Kurla stations during the work period.
This expansion is necessary as Platforms 8, 9, 12, and 13 at CSMT currently cannot accommodate 24-coach trains. The project aims to extend Platforms 12 and 13 from 510 to 690 metres, similar to work completed on Platforms 10 and 11 in June last year.
The block period will also involve the relocation of 31 overhead electrification masts, the connection of 34 signalling posts, and the laying of half a kilometre of track.
