This update comes as Mumbai Metro gears up to partially open four new lines (2B, 4, 4A and 9) in the coming weeks.

Maharashtra’s Thane is set for a road upgrade, with the crucial Majiwada Flyover remaining closed for the next 15 days until April 20.

The Thane City Police, in an advisory, announced the closure, stating that columns would be erected during this period for the construction of the Majiwada Metro Station, falling under the limits of the Kapurwadi Traffic Subdivision. It shared that jack beams will be placed on the columns, and after the jack beams are installed, rafters will be erected.

As per the statement, the bridge will remain closed from April 5 to April 20, between 10 PM and 5 AM, during which all the traffic from Mumbai to Nashik and Ghodbunder via the bridge will remain suspended.

The police have also suggested alternative routes for daily commuters. To avoid disruption, the police have recommended using the Eastern Express Highway and Ghobunder Road as alternative routes. Bikers can opt for the service road near Jupiter Hospital and Golden Park during the restricted hours.

They have also urged locals to follow the Thane Traffic Police’s official social media handles for real-time updates and changes in routes. The Majiwada flyover is one of the most vital links for vehicles travelling between Thane and Mumbai.

The construction of the Majiwada Metro Station has been underway for a while now. With plans to erect the roof for the station, a 60-ton mobile crane will be installed on the main channel of the flyover, right in front of the Jupiter Hospital, as per Mumbai Live.

The update comes at a time when the Mumbai Metro has been gearing up to launch new metro lines for four routes, enhancing public transit in the city.

According to Hindustan Times, lines 2B, 4, 4A and 9 will be partially opened in the coming weeks, with the longest of the four routes in Thane. As of now, nineteen metro stations are almost ready.
