BluSmart, once seen as a rising challenger to ride-hailing giants Ola and Uber, has suddenly suspended new ride bookings through its app in key cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Though the app remains live on the Google Play Store, users are currently unable to select a date or time for bookings.
This abrupt move follows closely on the heels of the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (Sebi) recent findings in its probe into Gensol Engineering — BluSmart’s key partner. Gensol, which leased electric vehicles to BluSmart and maintained strong financial ties, is alleged to have diverted over Rs 200 crore that was originally earmarked for EV purchases.
Amid growing financial uncertainty, reports on April 14 revealed that BluSmart may be preparing to exit its core ride-hailing operations. Instead, the company is planning to pivot into functioning as a fleet partner for Uber.
According to a Moneycontrol report, BluSmart’s shareholders have approved a phased transition of the company’s electric vehicle fleet to Uber. The process is expected to begin with 700–800 cars, though a definitive timeline is still being worked out.
