The BCCI is scrambling to find a new jersey sponsor after its ₹358-crore contract with Dream11 was nullified due to the government’s ban on real-money gaming platforms.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in a mission mode to find a replacement for its jersey sponsor, Dream11, whose contract has been rendered null and void due to the government’s decision to ban real-money gaming platforms.

“We are on mission mode.. the Asia Cup is starting in 15 days,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia told businessline.

Board to invite fresh bids soon

He pointed out that the contract has been automatically nullified due to the law that bars any dealings with RMG entities. “The next step is to fill up the vacancy and over the next few days we will be exploring all options.” 

The cricket body is expected to call for bids from prospective sponsors and enter into a contract over the next week or so.

Fantasy sports platform Dream11 had entered into a 3-year, ₹358-crore contract with the BCCI in 2023, and there was just six months remaining on the contract.

When asked if there was any monetary impact due to the abrupt termination of the sponsorship deal, Saikia did not reply directly but repeated that the change in law invalidated the deal.

Auto and fintech firms show interest

Industry sources stated that the BCCI should not encounter any issues in attracting sponsorship, and some automobile companies and fintechs were keenly interested in it.

The government took everyone by surprise when it decided to pass a law banning all real-money games, arguing that these games of chance were addictive and led to people losing substantial amounts of money.
