Southend Airport Plane Crash: At least four people were killed after a small plane crashed at London’s Southend Airport on Sunday.
Essex Police confirmed that the victims include two pilots and two passengers. The police added that they are likely to be foreign nationals, BBC reported.
As per the Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Archives website, all four occupants, two pilots and two passengers, were killed in the crash on Sunday afternoon.
“Shortly after take-off from runway 05 at Southend Airport, while in initial climb, the twin engine airplane rolled to the left then entered an uncontrolled descent and crashed in a grassy area nearby the runway, bursting into flames,” it says.
Video footage showed a 12-metre plane in flames with a plume of black smoke at Southend-on-Sea, an airport east of London. The incident forced the closure of the airport “until further notice” and all flights to and from the airport have been cancelled.
Southend-on-Sea is about 65 kilometres (40 miles) east of the capital and is the sixth largest airport in the London area.
The incident occurred a month following the crash of a London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which went down shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport in India, killing all but one of the 242 people on board, along with 19 others on the ground — making it the deadliest aviation accident in a decade.

The plane, a Beechcraft B200, crashed soon after takeoff. The nature of the crash, with witnesses reporting the plane veering to the left, indicates a possible loss of power in the left engine, the BBC reported.
Records for this type of aircraft show several similar crashes over the past decade.
The aircraft flew from Athens, the capital of Greece, to Pula in Croatia on Sunday, then proceeded to Southend, with plans to return to Lelystad Airport in the Netherlands that same evening.
