Air India is the first Indian airline to operate the Airbus A350, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, offering excellent fuel-efficiency and long-range capabilities.

Air India, one of India’s leading global airlines, has announced an order for 100 additional Airbus aircraft.
This includes 10 widebody A350s and 90 narrowbody A320 Family planes, such as the A321neo. These new aircraft are in addition to the 470 planes Air India ordered from Airbus and Boeing last year.
With this latest order, Air India’s total Airbus orders for 2023 rise to 350 planes, comprising 40 A350s and 310 A320 Family aircraft.
To support its growing fleet, Air India has also selected Airbus’ Flight Hour Services-Component (FHS-C) for the maintenance of its A350s. The new contract includes comprehensive engineering services and on-site component stock in Delhi to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Air India, said, “These additional 100 Airbus aircraft will help to position Air India on the path to greater growth and contribute to our mission of building Air India into a world-class airline that connects India to every corner of the world.”
Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, added, “aving personally witnessed the formidable growth of the Indian aviation sector in recent months, I am glad to see Air India renew its trust in Airbus with this additional order for both our A320 Family and A350 aircraft.”
With this new order, Air India will receive a total of 344 Airbus aircraft, including six A350s so far. The airline had also placed an order with Boeing for 220 aircraft in 2023, with 185 yet to be delivered.
Air India is the first Indian carrier to fly the Airbus A350, featuring Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. Known for its fuel efficiency, comfort, and long-range capabilities, the A350 is already providing a premium experience for passengers flying non-stop between Delhi, London, and New York.
The A320 Family fleet, powered by CFM LEAP 1-A engines, forms the backbone of Air India’s domestic and short-haul services, offering outstanding operational efficiency and world-class experiences for millions of passengers.
