Good news for daily commuters and travellers in Meerut! The much-awaited Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro services are expected to begin operations soon. The final trials for both high-speed trains are currently in full swing, with authorities closely monitoring their performance and scheduling to ensure smooth operations. What more? Namo Bharat will be available every 10 minutes and Meerut Metro every 7 minutes.
According to officials, Namo Bharat will operate at a top speed of 160 km/h. The Meerut Metro, touted as the fastest metro in the country, will run at a maximum speed of 120 km/h.
The operations of both services will be controlled from a centralised command centre, allowing seamless coordination and efficient management of schedules.
Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro timings
To avoid any hindrance and ensure minimal wait times for passengers, Namo Bharat will be available every 10 minutes, an improvement from the current 15-minute interval. Meanwhile, the Meerut Metro will run every 7 minutes, offering quick and convenient travel across the city. With the Meerut Metro stopping at all stations, the entire distance is expected to be covered in just 30 minutes.
For the past two days, residents of Meerut have been gathering at stations, excited to witness the high-speed trials of both trains running at the same speed efficiently. The date for the official launch has not been disclosed yet, but it is believed that it may be announced at any moment.
Once operational, both the Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro are expected to revolutionise public transport in the region, offering faster, more reliable, and comfortable travel options for thousands of daily passengers.
How will both trains be operated?
The Namo Bharat train and the Meerut Metro train are modern transport systems. It will be operated from the centralised Operation Control Center (OCC). The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has adopted the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level-2 with LTE-based Platform Screen Door (PSD) for the first time in the world. This includes Automatic Train Protection (ATP) and Automatic Train Supervision (ATS).
ATP is a safety system that makes sure that trains operate within safe speed limits and signals. At the same time, it is a monitoring and control system to minimise disruptions and maintain adherence to the timetable.
How can passengers change the trains?
The Namo Bharat train will be stationed on one side of the station, while the Meerut Metro train will be there on the other side. Passengers who want to travel to Meerut South can get down at one and catch the other train from the opposite platform. They won’t have to walk much to go in the same direction.
