As the Indian government aims to increase the ethanol blend in petrol to 30 per cent (E30) by 2030, Mahindra is preparing to introduce engines compatible with this fuel. Upgrades required for these engines include reengineering to run on E30 and higher-rated fuels (up to 100 per cent ethanol-based), ethanol material sensors for real-time ethanol concentration monitoring, and fuel rail and injector heaters for cold starts.

Fuel Flex Unveiled At Auto Expo 2025

The Auto Expo 2025 showcased various flex-fuel cars and bikes, although no specific launch timeline for four-wheelers has been revealed yet. Among the highlights were Hyundai’s Creta 1.0 Flex Fuel, Tata’s E85-compatible Punch, Maruti’s Wagon R Flex Fuel, and Toyota’s petrol-electric hybrid powertrain in the Innova Hycross, which can run on E20 and higher-rated fuel.
