An Air India plane caught fire shortly after it landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport on Monday.
The aircraft suffered some damage due to the fire. However, passengers and crew members disembarked normally and are safe, the Air India spokesperson said in a statement.
The Flight AI 315, operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 22 July 2025, experienced an auxiliary power unit (APU) fire shortly after it had landed and parked at the gate.

What Is Auxiliary Power Unit?
The APU is a small engine (not the main engine) that provides power to the aircraft when it’s on the ground — for lights, air conditioning, and starting the main engines.
If there’s an APU fire, it means this small engine overheated or caught fire, which can be dangerous if not quickly controlled.
